CORN DOG BATTER

1 c. flour
2/3 c. corn meal (white or yellow)
1 1/2 t. baking powder
2 T. sugar (this ingredient is essential for the doughnut like flavor)

You will need 1 lb. hot dogs. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Add 1 egg, 2/3 c. milk (whole or buttermilk is good) and 2 T. of melted shortening (Crisco). Mix til batter is very smooth. Insert wooden sticks into hot dogs. Dip hot dogs into batter, coating thoroughly. Deep fry in oil, that's around 375°, for about 2 minutes or til batter is browned. Drain on paper towels.
