FRENCH MEAT PIE
2 T. cooking oil
1 large onion sliced thinly
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. ground pork
1 c. mashed potatoes
2 t. ground allspice
1 t. salt
1/4 t. pepper
pastry for a double crust (9 inch) pie
1 egg beaten (optional)
Heat oil and sauté' onion till tender; remove and set aside. Brown beef and pork together and drain. Combine onion, meat, potato and seasonings. Line a 9 inch pie plate with the pastry, fill with the meat mixture, top with the second crust, seal and flute the edges, vent top and brush with egg if desired. Bake 375°, 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
